JOB TITLE: Trainee Software Developer
WORKING PATTERN: Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm
Provide application support and enhancement expertise for all manufacturing related IT infrastructure and production applications. This includes, but is not limited to, support of all of CooperVision’s UK Manufacturing facilities on the Windows network and associated software applications.
Develop small scale application enhancements as directed by the IT Development leader. This position will interface with all functional groups within I.T
Design and program in the windows environment a range of enhancements to meet the information needs of manufacturing operations.
Provide day to day support for various systems to ensure optimum performance and enable the smooth running of the business with delivery to agreed SLA targets.
Analyze needs and recommend solutions that would result in cost savings or increased productivity.
Build and maintain a network of internal customer relationships by spending time with them, understanding their requirements and delivering to them as part of an overall plan.
Work to standard group processes for small scale enhancements and bug fixes are concerned.
Responsible for maintaining IT systems’ documentation for all manufacturing systems in accordance with ISO/FDA standards.
Participate in planning, coordinating, and implementing new or modified systems, and training employees.
Required to travel between other Coopervision sites on an intermittent basis.
Responsible for providing timely and concise summaries of work status to manager.
Participates in out of hours support when scheduled.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Software development exposure, ideally within a complex regulated environment.
Aware of the .net framework and able to enhance applications on this platform. Primary technologies developed in are VB.net, VB6 and ASP.net.
Good understanding of the business and its information requirements.
Experience of delivering on project tasks to time, cost and quality within the context of software development.
Able to quickly learn core business processes and then apply software development skills to issues observed as part of the local development team.
Experience with VBA and Excel spreadsheets.
Report writing on a range of platforms.
Systems analysis awareness of both rapid prototyping and wafer fall based software development approaches.
Attention to detail.
Communication and negotiation skills.
Fluent in English Language (Verbal & Written).
Capable of developing creative and adaptable solutions for use within the business.
Ability to multitask whilst maintaining high work standards.
Adaptable and able to learn new technologies possibly working within a COTS configuration environment in the future.
Knowledge of modern database products such as SQL server.
General office environment, normal working hours scheduled to be 08:30 to 16:30 Monday to Friday with participation in team “out of hours” support when required.
Required to enter into the manufacturing clean rooms to understand requirements of the business.
Mainly desk based, working on incidents and requests from the business.
Ideally educated to degree level in a computing or IT related area or working towards this level of qualification.
Ideally, will have worked within an IT function and have an excellent understanding of the information needs of a commercial business.
